I was approached this week by my Research Project teacher and also by the coordinator of the Research Project at Woodville High School yesterday (Monday 21 March). I was approached due to the fact that another student at Woodville High School which I communicate daily with is in fact doing almost exactly the same thing as me, which I was not aware of. Without sounding bias, despite the fact that this particular student had gotten their idea from me as I had actually started this project during the Christmas holidays I have chosen to let them continue their work which now means I will have to completely start my Reseach Project again, from scratch.

After discussions with my teachers I have chosen to research further into a topic which I am very passionate in, Film Score Composing. I have an aspiration to be a Film Score Composer, however other than studying composing I am not aware of what I need to do in order to be a composer and get into the industry. Thus, my new research topic is "FIlm Score Composing" with the focus question "What do you need to do in order to be a Film Score Composer?". In order to complete my research, I can utillise situations such as when I am representing South Australian Composers in the National Music Educators Conference where I will be having direct communication with composers already in the field. I also have links with composers since when I won the Australian Society of Music Educators Young Composers Award (ASME YCA) so will be able to have interviews and communication with other composers and people in the field.

I will take this opportunity however to express my disappreciation for the concept of the Research Project being a compulsory subject for all Year 12 students. Obviously with such potential for problematic situations such as this - where I have now missed a term of work due to limitations and guidelines of the Research Project - I ask how will this issue be solved? Yes, the SACE Board tries to ensure that students are aware they cannot do a similar topic to someone else, but how can this be policed earlier so no other students will be put through a situation similar to what I am now, where I now have to start again. Encorporating the new changes into SACE could be benificial, but combining the Research Project with the new research intensive based subjects seems contradictory and time consuming. There are many other issues which I have relating to the entire Research Project.
